Brazilian International Reserves Aumara B. Feu Alvim Marques The Brazilian international reserves were at the headlines of the Brazilian economical crises. The reserve levels adopted by emerging countries in the globalization era have been kept at levels, even in absolute values, comparatively higher than those of the developed countries. They constitute, as it was said, a safety layer against speculative attacks. In order to maintain these reserves, Brazil has paid a price estimated to be over 100 billion US dollars, due to the high interest rates. Facts have demonstrated the limited efficiency of this buffer, since to build it we have increased a disproportional internal debt. Data concerning the Brazilian and international reserves are presented. Brazilian International reserves
