 Convergence of Agriculture and Energy:

I.Celullosic Biomass Production for Biofuels and Electricity

Claudinei Andreoli

The use of biomass for energy purposes increases the dry crop matter demand that must satisfy both its traditional use and new energy demand. A new energy strategy must be included in order to maximize the absorption and use of light and CO2 available on arable and increase the efficient use of input.

Hydrogen and Fuel Cells

Marcelo Linardi

Whenever one hears about hydrogen one immediately imagines a renewable and clean energy source. It is not exactly that. This notion is true only when hydrogen was obtained from a renewable source. New equipment, the fuel cell, is turning into reality the so called “Hydrogen Economy” that includes a large technological and economic field. Natural gas, as the main hydrogen source in the next decades, will be the connection between hydrogen from fossil origin and that from renewable source.

CO2 Emissões from Fuel Combustion

Comparison between the IEA Values and those of e&e/MCT

 Olga Mafra, Frida Eidelman

The Economy and Energy Organization carried out together with the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT) the calculation of greenhouse effect gases emissions from 1970 to 2006. For this calculation it was used the Carbon Balance and software where the energy data from BEN EPE/MME are coupled with coefficients extracted from the First Brazilian Inventory elaborated by MCT (1990/1994). The calculated CO2 emissions are directly compared with values calculated by the International Energy Agency. Comparison of total emissions by energy and by sector has shown a quite satisfactory agreement in the considered years.
